Hi! My name is Michelle and I am a crochet designer from Alberta, Canada. I started crocheting when I was about 8 years old. Many Saturday evenings I would spend time at my grandparent’s house. My grandpa was an avid hockey fan as was my grandma (by virtue of her chair’s proximity to the t.v.). She passed the time in the evenings while the hockey games were on, by crocheting and knitting. When I was present at these “hockey nights in Canada”, my grandma took the time to show me how to crochet and knit. Many years have gone by since those days of buttered popcorn, yarn and hockey games. However, throughout the ups and downs of my life I have sought comfort through crocheting. It’s my “happy place” and a necessary way for me to relax and express my creativity.
Looking back on my early years of crocheting, I realize how much time my grandma spent repeatedly showing me how to master the foundations of crochet. It took me a long time to get my tension “just right”. My grandma explained in words, drew diagrams and showed me how to master simple repetitive stitches. For years, I stuck to those stitches in the endless small projects I made, and worked obsessively to “get my edges straight”!
When I came back to crocheting years later as an adult, my grandma was no longer with me. I scrambled to refresh my memory and my skills. The internet was a “thing” and I naturally sought the answers online. I struggled endlessly to read patterns and was frustrated that I could no longer just ask my grandma for help. Through perseverance and the help of many wonderful video tutorials and crochet hosts, I became happily immersed in the world of crochet again. I developed my skills to a place where I feel I can now help others enjoy this wonderful pastime. Crochet designing has also become an integral part of who I am as a crocheter. I am thankful for those long hours my grandma spent helping me. Thank you for spending some time here and for letting me share my story and my passion with you. I hope I can continue my grandma’s legacy and help you crochet! Happy crocheting! Michelle
